PEX water supply tubing and fittings have several advantages over metal pipe and rigid plastic pipe systems. PEX tubing remains flexible, resistant to scale and doesn't corrode. PEX tubing and fittings are faster to install than standard metal pipe or rigid plastic pipe and have the advantage of far fewer connections, fittings, and a longer usable lifespan.

PEX tubing is made from a high density polyethylene polymer. This HDPE is then melted and extruded into a tube. PEX plumbing was introduced into the United States around 1980 and the use of PEX piping and fittings has been increasing ever since by replacing copper pipe in applications like radiant heating systems that are installed within concrete slabs under floors and walkways. PEX tubing is also utilized along with outdoor heating systems.
